Henry Ross Hynds

May 1, 2015 (Birthday!)

On Tuesday, April 28, Christina's friend Chrystal texted her with a message along the lines of "You should get ready for the baby. Wash all clothes and cloth diapers now, etc."  Bob also nagged Christina that morning about packing the hospital bag. Christina really had it in her head that Hank was not going to be coming for another two weeks, so she still didn't feel a "sense of urgency" what-so-ever.  However, with Bob AND Chrystal telling her to start preparing, Christina kicked her butt into gear and started sterilizing breast pump parts/bottles, washing cloth diapers and baby clothes, organizing the nursery, buying miscelaneous baby stuff, and doing a major cleaning of the house.

Come Wednesday, Bob found Christina scrubbing the bathroom's tile grout with a tooth brush and asked, "Are you nesting? Does this mean the baby is coming?"  Christina retorted with a big fat "NO."

Thursday, Christina decided to start preparing the hospital bag. That morning Bob said that it would be nice if Hank came the upcoming weekend as he had no court hearings, major meetings, and/or anything of significant the following week. For dinner, Christina made Chicken Curry (Tikka Masala) and Bob made a disgusting joke about curry and pooping during delivery (!). All the while Christina was still thinking in her head that Hank wasn't coming any time soon!

At 4:00 am (Friday the 1st of May), Christina's water broke. Bob and she argued about whether or not they needed to go to the hospital. After a quick call to Christina's OB/GYN nurse-on-call, they rushed out to the hospital. Although her water broke, Christina had no contractions what-so-ever. Christina was admitted into the hospital around 5:30 am with only 2 centimeters dilated.

8:00 am rolled around with still no contractions. Her OB/GYN Doctor came to visit and sternly talked her into taking Pitocin to speed up the contractions.  At 10:00 am Christina was having very small sporadic contractions (she couldn't really notice them). So the lead nurse upped the Pitocin dosage from a 1 to a 2. Things started to kick in! Contractions came on so quickly and painfully that Christina started begging for an epidural around noon. Bob and her were under the impression that labor would be another 8 hours or so since they were told by the childbirthing class they attended that the average labor lasted around 11 hours!!! Christina could not endure another 8 hours.  The nurse told Chirstina that the anesthesiologist for the epidural would arrive in about 40 - 60 mins and so Christina began watching the clock on the wall like a hawk. Hank arrived at 2:13 pm... and the anesthesiologist never came!
